75 years of the ZIEGLER plant fire department
The ZIEGLER plant fire department celebrates its anniversary and appoints Florian Sing as its commander
In July 2024, the plant fire department of Albert Ziegler GmbH celebrates its 75th anniversary. Not only the members and former members of the plant fire department were invited to this celebration, but also comrades from other plant fire departments in the region and Giengen's Lord Mayor, Mr. Dieter Henle.
An exciting history
The ZIEGLER plant fire department was officially found on May 30th, 1949. Over the past 75 years, the plant fire department has developed into an indispensable institution at ZIEGLER. In addition to defensive fire protection, it also performs tasks relating to technical assistance, environmental protection and preventive fire protection.
The history of the ZIEGLER plant fire department is full of events and operations, including the major fire at the agricultural machinery manufacturer Ködel & Böhm in Lauingen (1955), the fire at the Nachtigall building in the old town (1963) and the disaster operation in Nattheim (1968). These historic operations underline the longstanding commitment of the ZIEGLER plant fire department. Today, the plant fire department consists of 24 members (July 2024).
Particularly notable operations in recent years were the fire at the ZIEGLER hose weaving mill in March 2018, as well as various storm operations in which the plant fire department provided indispensable assistance with its TSF-W and LF 10/6.
Florian Sing appointed as the new commander during the anniversary celebrations
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Florian Sing was also officially appointed as the new commander. The previous commander, Mr. Josef Szaszur will retire. Florian Sing was previously deputy commander and now takes over the leadership position of the plant fire department. Mr. Lukas Klemt is appointed as the new deputy.
Uwe Lang, member of the Board of Management of ZIEGLER and head of the plant fire department, emphasizes the important role of the plant fire department in the region:
“Our team is not only active in operations at ZIEGLER, but also supports the fire department of Giengen during daytime standby duty and during major fires and disaster operations in the town and surrounding districts”, explains Lang.
Cooperation with the fire department of Giengen
The cooperation with the fire department of Giengen includes, among other things, the transport service of members of the fire department who work at ZIEGLER – from the workplace to the station in the event of emergencies during working hours. In addition to the regular deployments, which are around 25 to 30 deployments per year (maximum 50 deployments per year), the plant fire department also carries out fire safety education tasks. For example, employees are trained in the use of fire extinguishers.
The anniversary celebration on July 19th, 2024 provided an opportunity to honor the impressive history of the plant fire department and celebrate the achievements of its comrades.
